In the summer of 2016, Cavaleiro secured the European Championship title with Portugal. Subsequently, he parted ways with Monaco, remaining unemployed for half a year. In early 2017, he joined Shanghai SIPG, yet his tenure lasted just a year, during which he appeared in only six matches for the club. At the beginning of 2018, Cavaleiro exited Shanghai SIPG and officially retired from professional football.
